NCMA ANTI-BULLYING WORKSHOP
Confidence in yourself. Calm in your response.
A discussion-led workshop for parents and adults, with confidence-building and basic physical techniques shown for when there is no safe alternative.
You don’t have to win an argument
to take back your next step.
01 / THE WORKSHOP
For parents who want to support a child, and adults who want to handle difficult situations with greater confidence. Explore mindset, the way you carry yourself and a calm response, plus basic martial arts options if a situation becomes physical and you cannot safely get away.
Build the confidence to trust yourself, set a boundary and keep someone else’s behaviour from defining your self-worth. Recognise the pattern, know who can help, and see basic physical options for a last-resort escape.
Bullying is never the responsibility of the person experiencing it. These are options to build support, not a promise that a particular response will stop it.
Explore repeated harmful behaviour, power imbalances, group dynamics and online situations. Notice patterns without waiting for physical aggression.
Explore steady posture, a calm voice and short, clear boundaries. Practise keeping perspective when someone tries to provoke you, then choose distance, an exit or support.
See basic, practical martial arts techniques demonstrated by the coach: protective positioning, simple releases from common grabs and movement to create an escape. The aim is to protect yourself and get away when there is no safe alternative.
Listen without blame. Rehearse a conversation with your child, a school or a workplace contact. Explore safe ways to support someone else.
Build a factual incident log, identify the appropriate reporting route, and agree follow-up actions. Leave with a simple personal action plan.
A TWO-HOUR WORKSHOP SESSION
Mainly discussion, guided conversations and optional role-play, with a short coached introduction to physical self-defence. Keep prevention first, then explore simple options when talking or leaving is no longer enough to get you safe.
Welcome, shared expectations and recognising patterns.
Self-belief, calm boundaries and safer exits.
Guided conversations and scenarios, including a five-minute pause.
Coach demonstrations and optional controlled practice of basic physical options.
Recording, reporting, personal plans and questions.
WHEN THERE IS NO SAFE ALTERNATIVE
The coach will show basic martial arts techniques intended to help you protect yourself, create space and reach safety.
Watch the demonstrations or take part in optional, controlled practice with the coach’s guidance. Contact and adaptations are agreed first. This is a short introduction; regular classes provide ongoing practice.
TRY A MOMENT FROM THE WORKSHOP
Your child tells you the same group targets them every week. They are worried that telling a teacher will make it worse.
CONFIDENCE BUILT THROUGH PRACTICE
Regular martial arts classes offer more than physical techniques. Consistent practice gives you opportunities to face challenges, recognise your progress and build trust in yourself.
Practise standing with purpose, looking up and speaking clearly. Quiet confidence can communicate a boundary without needing to prove anything.
Working towards goals and learning new skills can strengthen self-belief. A bully’s opinion does not have to become the way you see yourself.
Supervised practice helps you learn to pause, manage frustration and keep thinking under pressure. Bring that same composure to difficult conversations.
The aim is to make intimidation less powerful: to feel more secure in yourself, less pulled into someone else’s behaviour, and more able to choose your response.
Mainly discussion and scenarios, plus a brief introduction to basic physical skills. Coached practice is optional and controlled; there is no sparring.
Repeated practice turns learning into experience. Ongoing coaching and a supportive training community help confidence develop beyond the class.
Explore regular NCMA classesConfidence can grow through practice; nobody has failed if bullying upsets them or they need help. The workshop is open to non-members, and joining regular classes is optional. It complements support from schools, workplaces and safeguarding professionals.

You do not need to wait for a workshop to seek help. Raise concerns with the appropriate school contact, safeguarding lead or workplace reporting contact, and keep a factual record. Regular training creates opportunities to learn, overcome manageable challenges and recognise progress. The aim is stronger self-belief, a steadier presence and more composure when someone tries to intimidate you. Confidence is built through experience, not simply being told to be confident. Feeling upset or asking for help does not take that progress away.
